Chaplin, Keaton,Brooks are all filmmakers who do the kind of comedy I love. The films I make are simple and style of comedy I use is based on techniques used in their slapstick comedies which I are among the funniest things I've ever seen.
I honestly feel that truly funny, lighthearted slapstick comedy is fading away and that modern comedy has "ruined" the genre. Let me make my case I have seen modern comedies like the "Scary Movie" film series. I haven't seen all the movies in that "series", but the films I have seen are really raunchy and because they are so raunchy its kinda hard for me to enjoy them.
I point this out because to me comedy is innocent and something that is goofy and silly and makes you genuinely happy without making you feel uncomfortable about laughing at it. The fact that modern comedy filmmakers feel they have to be raunchy and inappropriate to get a laugh really disappoints me, the reason being ,comedians in the silent era were just as creative as modern directors like Mel Brooks, but silent era directors were kind of making it up in their films, they didn't know what they were doing early in the the silent era in particular, just like me when I first started and in many ways I still don't know what I am doing until the film is almost complete.
For people who don't know me please don't use this post to say that "Oh he hates modern movie or he only likes silent movies/comedy. Please understand I love all movies from any era and any genre, I'm just asking why do the majority of modern comedies and movies in general need to be full of constant innuendo?
Can't we go back to the days of pies in the face and Bonks on the head, is that to much to ask?
